Absolute Bargain !

Popped into TK Max on my chaotic mad dash round the shops looking for Christmas gifts, they have got a huge display of American Crafts post bound album packs. 12 x 12 and 8 x 8 they range from £7.99 to £12.99.
The packs come with the post bound cloth covered album, sheets of patterned paper, letter stickers, accent stickers and chipboard shapes. There was a big variety to choose from too.

Even if you don’t need one yourself then they would make great Christmas gifts for fellow scrappers

Quite frankly at that price it may be worth stocking up on a few if you are in a position to purchase them now.

I have attached a couple of photos from the AC web site to show examples

OK here ends the public service announcement

My December Album

OK, a few photos of my album in progress, I have used the Teresa Collins bracket book as a basis for my album, this is supplemented with a few sheets of her transparencies, a first for me, in six years of scrapping I haven’t really embraced transparencies !

I bought a few sheets of patterned paper some are from Teresa Collins others are Basic Grey, Sweetwater, Making Memories and Jenni Bowlin, I am also using Bo Bunny,s back to backs dot card along with some good old kraft cardstock.

My front cover is relatively simple, I added a strip of dotty black card along the binding , then I dug through my boxes of embellishments and re-discovered the making memories mailbox numbers which I used for the 2010.
The metal bookplate is another making memories find along with 7 gypsies gaffer tape month. The star is a chipboard tag I think it is a bazzill one which I covered in card then cut out and added a smaller star from patterned paper finishing it off with a home made printed tag and a silver star brad.

Most of my embellishments are going to be years old, I recently downsized all my scrapbook supplies from our spare bedroom to a three foot by two foot chest in my living room, and I am not buying anymore new stuff until the old stuff has been used up.

I decided as I was on a roll with this project I might as well get ahead and start putting the bones of the other pages together too, I have put little post it notes onto the pages where I want to add a photo or if I want to remember to cover a particular topic.

I am using the transparency pages mostly as “number/date” pages I have on a couple of them added a scenic route tabbed graph paper page to journal on.

Photo wise, hopefully I can manage to get one photo a day that evokes some aspect of the season, I cheated slightly and have added a couple of photos from last year already, one I took of our outside lights and one of my all time favourite photos of my eldest son. I don’t think it matters that they were taken in December 2009, when I failed miserably once again to do my December Daily album. Its the memories they will help to recall many years down the line.

Star light star bright

Making paper stars.

Something I want to have a go at every year but NEVER EVER get around to doing, I did a search for some templates and found a few good ones spread across the blog-sphere, I think I may go for the less time consuming cut and fold variety.

I absolutely love the three D stars but I am not sure I am going to have the time to do those, I’d like to do a couple of them to hang in my garden room with the shop bought paper snowflakes I snaffled at M and S in their 3 for 2 offer.

My plan is to do several smaller stars and either string them onto twine and hang them as a garland across my bookcases in the living room OR use a cheap string of fairy lights and tie a star in between each light to make the garland.

Here are a few links where you can get the templates from.

Pre Dawn

Nope, not a new thriller, but the time of day I am getting up recently, I know that’s not difficult now the mornings are dark but I have been getting up at 5.30am on some weekdays.
Not my normal rise and shine time, but I am finding that if I do this a few times a week I get a little bit more organised, it is giving me some breathing time, to write to do lists etc before the madness ensues.

I have been getting my Hubby to wake me before he leaves for work, making me a cuppa too would be pushing it !! So I am starting off my day in the peace and quiet with my large cup of tea, shuffling my day around, deciding on dinner and what needs to be done, as much as I would love to empty/fill the dishwasher and run the hoover round too, I think my sleeping children may object

OKAY, now I am organised for today and onto my second large cuppa, I have to ask is £5.95 too expensive for a mug ? you know the type that I am drinking my tea out of right now.
Why am I asking this ? well I visited starbucks last week, crest fallen when I found out that my favourite christmas drink has been given the heave ho this year (Dark Cherry Mocha)
Anywho they have some lovely christmas mugs and I toyed with buying a couple for the festive season, my personal favourite is the china version of their christmas paper mug.

BUT I refrained because I thought 10p short of 12 quid was too damm expensive for two mugs, now I am feeling a little grinchy about it.

I have to admit that I am also loving those mugs with the candy cane stripped handles, I think I can see those as the bas for a hot choc gift mug filled with all the goodies necessary to make the perfect hot choc.

Yep sorted, I can stomach paying £5.95 when its for a gift but not for myself, chalk that up to personal logic !!

More Christmas Freebies on their way tomorrow.

December Daily Freebie

December wouldn’t be December if I wasn’t attempting to do another December Album.

Ever since her very first year of offering this class I have attempted Shimelle’s Journal Your Christmas Class. I even came close to finishing it once !

Each year I start off with the same intentions, last year I made my album ahead of time but then it stayed empty, go figure.
This year I am getting ready to jump through the hoops again, but I am more determined to complete it this year.
I am going to be adopting a slightly different approach, I am only doing upto the 25th of December and I am only going to use the prompts from Shimelle if and when I loose momentum.

I have created a set of sentiment dates specifically for the December Daily Album, they are designed to be printed onto tags to add to your pages, but just printing them out onto card or paper works too.

You can download them here

I am offering the whole set printed as tags in either white, cream or Kraft for £4.00 incl UK second class postage
tags measure 3.75 x 1.5 inches approx, drop me an email if you are interested and let me know what colour you would prefer the text in.

Hope you like these, leave me a comment and let me know.

Yorkshire Parkin, yummy, yummy !!

One of my favourite parts of November, eating copious amounts of Parkin mostly made by my Auntie D

I wasn’t until I came to live in southern England 20+ years ago that I realised not everyone celebrated bonfire night with a large helping of Parkin. Back in Yorkshire it is a bonfire night tradition.

Well I am going to be going to a bonfire night party this weekend and I am going to rock those southern taste buds with a donation of home made Parkin.

Parkin is essentially the Northern English form of gingerbread. Different parkins are characterized by where they are made and Yorkshire Parkin, one the most famous, is made using oats. Yorkshire Parkin is eaten on Bonfire Night, November 5th, celebrating the famous failure of Guy Fawkes to blow up the Houses on Parliament in 1605. Guy Fawkes was a Yorkshireman.

. . . and there you have it in a nut shell !

Keep checking in as I am going to start posting some Christmas Freebies and some December Daily Freebies this week, all designed by yours truly
